On the Road Pt. 2
I am spending the second night at my friend's house. Surprise! He has wireless DSL. He lives in a beautiful four-bedroom home with a huge living room, kitchen and dining room, and more room in the back for a utility room. The price he paid? $25,000. That's about a year's rent for me.
I attended my reunion tonight and it went well. Then, we gathered at a classmate's house, as we do every time and talked and ate yet more. No alcohol, no smokers, just fun. I haven't been to a party like that since the last time I had a reunion. These are really great people and if I didn't have to earn a living, I'd move back here in a heartbeat -- to a town with a population of 400. At least, that's what my friend Lorence tells me. I think there are actually only 12 people and we just keep running into them a dozen times a day. I had to go to Jamestown, about an hour's drive north of here to get a pair of pants and a shirt, since my suit was too wrinkled to wear -- no place to get a suit pressed. No clothing store. No barber shop. But nobody dressed up that much for the reunion.
I've been eating about every two hours. Today, I had breakfast. Then I had lunch. Then we went to Lorence's daughter's house for her two-year-old's birthday party. Then, we ate again at the reunion. And then again at the party afterwards. That's five meals.
Of course, I didn't HAVE to eat any of them. Just being sociable. Jusssssst being sociable.
I went to the neighboring town yesterday to see the house where I lived with my grandma for the last two years of school. It looked just like a house that had been standing empty for the past 30 years. Not a chip of paint on it, all gray, and a part of the roof was caved in. The gravel road that used to run by it is now a prairie road -- which means two ruts in the high grass. It was really sad. I spent some of the best years of my life in that house.
I didn't even look inside. No telling what kind of wild beast is making it home.
Haven't been watching the news, so I have no idea what's going on. I'm living the life of leisure. Might as well make the best of it before I get back to the daily grind.
Bedtime. We retire early here on the prairie. More later.
Oh, Laura Ingraham returns to her show Monday.

DSL? Yeah right, you had to climb the Telephone pole like Mr. Haney did on "Green Acres" (sorry couldn't help myself.)
