This Day in Republican History 03/23/05
March 23, 1823
Birth of Schuyler Colfax (R-IN), who as Speaker of the House broke precedent to vote for Republicans’ constitutional amendment banning slavery; later served as Vice President.
The Democrats have not changed a bit since those heady days when they owned slaves. Just as they call Republicans now who want to end abortion, they called Republicans back then who wanted to end slavery, "radicals."
