Terri is as Good as Dead
So Congress worked into the wee hours of the morning to pass emergency legisation to "open the door" to have Terri Schiavo's case heard by a federal judge. Yeah, that worked. Passing a case from a state judge to a federal judge was like passing it from a pickpocket to a jewel thief. This guy -- a Clinton appointee -- U.S. District Judge James Whittemore, wouldn't even get out of bed early to take the case. How can any moral person sleep at night, knowing a woman's life depends on his action? Now, he has said he will not rule to reinsert the feeding tubes. Can there be any doubt about what the other black-robed high priests up the line in the appeals process will do?
Missing from the congressional session were all the top Democrats. They weren't going to touch this molton potato. Their instinct is to always come down on the side of death. They knew if they won, they'd lose. They simply don't have a horse in this race. It is not a slippery slope that will lead to repeal of women's "right" to kill their babies up to the point of birth. This is Elian Gonzalez all over again, except without the automatic weapons. But this time, someone dies.
