Liberal Columnist Praises Clarence Thomas. What?

Here's another thing you won't see in the lamestream media. -- what Clarence Thomas said last week in voting for the individual right to bear arms. Seems it impressed Washington Post columnist Courtland Malloy, who still doesn't have a clue about the democrat party's bloody, racist past.

Referring to the disarming of blacks during the post-Reconstruction era, Thomas wrote: "It was the 'duty' of white citizen 'patrols to search negro houses and other suspected places for firearms.' If they found any firearms, the patrols were to take the offending slave or free black 'to the nearest justice of the peace' whereupon he would be 'severely punished.' " Never again, Thomas says.

In a scorcher of an opinion that reads like a mix of black history lesson and Black Panther Party manifesto, he goes on to say, "Militias such as the Ku Klux Klan, the Knights of the White Camellia, the White Brotherhood, the Pale Faces and the '76 Association spread terror among blacks. . . . The use of firearms for self-defense was often the only way black citizens could protect themselves from mob violence."

A liberal blog I recently visited said that the Democrats who founded and were members of the Ku Klux Klan were actually what we would call Republicans today and that Republicans of that day would not be recognized today.

Can you say, "Twisty-turney-spinney?"

Actually, he's got a point, Joe. Both parties prior to the Civil Rights Act were polarized into hostile liberal and conservative ranks. The Republicans had a right wing Goldwater and a left wing Rockefeller. The southern democrats were conservative and the Northern democrats were liberal.

It wasn't until the 1960's and integration that the southern democrats defected en mass to the hated Republican (Reconstructionist) party and the Republicans purged themselves of their liberal brethren, leaving what we have today: A radical Socialist democrat party that has stolen 90% of the black vote vs. a wishy-washy moderate Republican Party. True Conservatives have no home save the tea parties...

I guess Robert Byrd didn't get the memo. Almost all of the prominent democrat segregationists stayed democrats till the day they retired or died. The only exceptions I can think of are Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond.

With the death of Robert Byrd, for the first time in the history of the democrat party, there are no segregationists in Congress.
