Elvis Left the Building 32 Years Ago Today

Today (16 Aug) is the 42nd anniversary of the death of Elvis. I was living in the Azores then, working as a disk jockey. I was on the overnights (of course) and was getting ready for work when my boss called with the news. Sounded like he was at a party. Why wasn't I invited? Anyway, he told me to produce something on my shift. Despite having five hours of live time and eight newscasts, I managed to produce a 55-minute radio special on Elvis' life. It won an award, which is in a box with all my medals and ribbons and certificates that haven't seen the light of day since I retired from the military. Here's one of my favorite Elvis songs.

I was never a big Elvis fan. But my favorite Elvis song is "Love me Tender". I know it's a rip off of "Aura Lee" the Scottish folk song, but I still like it.

For those of you who have never heard it, Aura Lee can be heard here.
