My Brush with the Law

So, today I was running around, trying to find a radio for my car and stopped to have lunch at a Mexican restaurant I frequent -- Don something-or-other. In the middle of my meal a guy in a DC Metro windbreaker walks up to me and flashes a badge. "What agency are you with?" he asks. I had to ask him to repeat it twice because of his heavy "black accent" (fodder for another post). I told him, "I'm not with any agency." He pondered for a second and said, "Oh, yeah, this is Virginia." I then explained to him that in Virginia, people must wear their guns in plain view in a place that serves alcohol. He didn't know that. Being a member of the DC Police, I can understand that. He then walked out. I'm guessing that since he wasn't eating there, someone must have called the police. I could have showed him my concealed carry permit, but since I wasn't carrying concealed, I wasn't required to. And I wanted to ask him why DC cops were answering calls in Virginia, but I believe in keeping my contact with the authorities to a bare minimum. Less chance of being tazed, Bro. Isn't it odd that the very people who prattle on about the U.S. becoming a police state, want only the police to have guns? Inconsistencies like that are a sign of a shallow mind.

So, while you're running around, if you accidentally enter D.C., what do you do with your gun?

Owning a gun is illegal in DC, isn't it? If you enter DC with your gun in your car or on your person, are you illegal, or is there some kind of grace period for either leaving DC or getting rid of your gun? Is there a checkpoint where you surrender your gun at the border, and when you leave, pick it up again?

DC is a totalitarian state. No guns allowed period. They aren't even allowed in homes for self-defense. It's even illegal to transport a gun through the district. That's why criminals have a free hand there.

To get to DC from my stomping grounds, I have to cross the 14th street bridge, so I couldn't enter accidentally. I simply don't go to DC except to work and to Maryland except for medical appointments at Andrews AFB. They get none of my business otherwise. I have to leave my gun at home in those cases.

There is a bill in Congress that will force states to recognize the carry permits from all other states, but I don't give that much of a chance of passing. And, DC's gun ban is going to the Supreme Court. The drama there is going to be interesting.

So if DC doesn't have to pay any attention to the second amendment, are they exempt from the rest of the Bill of Rights as well? When I was stationed in DC, we didn't need passports, do you now?

As you can see from Rush's Harry Reid letter, they seem to have repealed the First Amendment too.
