My Immigration Policy

Although the vast majority of Americans oppose it, the Senate is going to vote today (Tuesday) on whether to revive the dreadful immigration reform bill that would grant amnesty to at least 12 million illegal immigrants. This 800-page monstrosity was cobbled together in secret and Senators -- both Democrat and Republican -- are shocked, SHOCKED that the American people want to stick their nose into their business. I mean, what is this anyway, a government of the People, by the People and for the People? Here's my immigration bill. I didn't sneak into the men's room to write it. I crafted it right here at my desk, where anyone could see it. It isn't nearly 800 pages long. And it's about as inelegant as legislation can get. Secure the borders. That's it. Seal the borders by any means necessary. If it takes a wall, if it takes troops, if it takes land mines, whatever it takes, stop illegal immigration dead in its tracks. If we are able to stop North Koreans from drifting south, there isn't a reason in the world we can't stop illegal immigrants from drifting north. While we are doing that, we can initiate the following punitive measures: 1. Make illegal immigration and employing illegal immigrants felonies. 2. Stop all Homeland Security funding to any state or municipality that declares itself a sanctuary or orders its authorities not to enforce immigration laws. 3. Immediately deport any illegal alien guilty of breaking any law, including traffic violations. 4. Make it a class 1 misdemeanor for any illegal alien to send money out of the country or for anyone who aids an illegal alien in sending money out of the country. Those things could be done immediately, while the borders are being secured. Five years after the borders have been secured -- and only then -- begin work on the status of illegal immigrants who still remain in the country. That's grist for a later post -- after I think it through. Unlike the Senate, I now open my bill to debate by the American people.
