Pet Poison
So, a company called Menu Foods has issued a recall of 40 brands of cat food and 48 brands of dog food. What stuns me is that this one company makes such popular brands of pet foods as Eukenuba, Iams, and Science Diet. That means that most pet foods are pretty much alike. So what's with all these commercials claiming their brand is the best?
Dogs and cats have pretty strong digestive systems. They can eat things that would send a human to an early grave. But after eating just a little of these suspicious foods, they experience renal failure. That doesn't sound like any sort of bacteria to me. It SOUNDS like anti-freeze poisoning. A cat can walk through a puddle of anti-freeze and get sick just by licking its paws. And it takes about four tablespoons of the stuff to kill a medium-size dog.
They die of renal failure.
It should be interesting to see if this is caused by bacteria or poison and if it is accidental or intentional.
Meanwhile, check the list.

I read the press release. It says the reports of problems began shortly after they started using a new ingredient from a new supplier. They stopped it immediately (they say). Perhaps the new ingredient is anti-freeze?
I have a feeling they're going to track this down rather quickly. The use of a new ingredient common to all the foods sounds like the likeliest culprit. Could be tainted in some way.
To play the devil's advocate here, I would suggest that the evidence points to sporadic poisoning, sort of like what happened with Tylenol.
The Tylenol poisonings took place in stores before today's security packaging was in use. It looks like this was from the source at the factory.
Well you were on top of this too...they found it to be RAT POISON.
I am sure it was no accident.
