It Begins

The weasels are already starting to come out of the woodwork:

GENEVA, Nov 5, 2006 (AFP) - UN human rights chief Louise Arbour on Sunday called for a moratorium on executions after former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by an Iraqi court. BRUSSELS, Nov 5 (Reuters) - The European Union urged Iraq on Sunday not to carry out the death sentence passed on Iraq's former leader Saddam Hussein after his conviction for crimes against humanity. "The EU opposes capital punishment in all cases and under all circumstances, and it should not be carried out in this case either," Finland, current holder of the rotating EU presidency, said in a statement. (AFP) The New York Times called for the deferment of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein's execution, saying Iraq had not received "full justice." The newspaper, which is opposed to the death penalty, said Iraq not only needed to hold Saddam fully accountable for his atrocities but also to heal and educate the nation he "ruthlessly divided."

I respect the viewpoint of those who are against the death penalty. But the timing here seems a bit disingenuous. And of course we all know that 99.97% of anything that has anything to do with the UNO is just a pile of steaming you know what.

Where were these people when Saddam and his ilk were torturing and slaughtering his own people?

They were really nowhere, Ma'am,
Living in their nowhere land,
Making all their nowhere plans,
For nobody.
