For once, I don't blame Hollywood for its cluelessness. From AP:
NBC expressed regret Monday for an Emmy Awards comedy skit that included a mock plane crash and aired on the network the evening of a fatal Kentucky jetliner accident. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the many families who lost loved ones in the plane crash in Kentucky on Sunday, and to the entire community that has suffered this terrible loss," NBC said in a statement the day after the ceremony.
I really don't understand all the controversy over what is essentially a local story. I've had personal experience with the Hollywood elite and they are overwhelmingly ignoramuses. They live in a world unto themselves. I doubt whether, on the day of another orgy of self-congratulation, any of these people even knew a plane had gone down in Kentucky, killing 49. They were too busy preparing and preening and pampering themselves for the Emmies. And if any of the people at NBC possibly spotted the story on a monitor in passing, I very much doubt they would have thought that the crash of a commuter plane in Kentucky, combined with a plane crash skit at the ceremony, would combine to make this a big, national story.
See? I can be understanding.
I didn't know Mariska Hargitay is Jayne Mansfield's daughter.
