Imagine
Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...
Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...
Imagine no possessions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer,
but I'm not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.
You don't have to imagine any of this. Just look at North Korea. Look at Vietnam. Look at Laos. Look at Cuba. Look at any country in the history of this world that has tried to eliminate God. Look at their poverty. Look at their repression. Look at their brutality.
Look at the countries that have adopted socialism. The European middle class lives at the same level as the American poor. The first Pilgrims who came to this continent didn't die because of the harsh conditions or because they didn't know how to survive, they starved because they tried to set up a socialist system. Socialism spreads misery equally -- except among the political upper class.
This is what John Lennon wanted for all of us. He should not have been killed. Although in countries that have followed his dream, millions are imprisoned, tortured and "assassinated" for disagreeing with what John Lennon (and Vladimir Lenin) believed.

No he shouldn't have been killed. He should have been forced to live undear a true Communistic state. I bet he would have sung a different song then.
I loved the Beatles...
But... you are absolutely correct. I have this love/hate relationship with "Hollywood"...
The song Imagine has always bothered me... love the melody... hate the lyrics... as a kid... I never paid attention... as an adult... I know better...
A perfect post. Thanks Kimosabe.
John Lennon was a pretty good Musician, a Fair Singer, and a Legendary Songwriter.
He wasn't worth a Hoot as a Visionary Guru.
He did not deserve to die, though.
I would have loved to see him live long enough to see his song catalogue sold to Michael Jackson, at which point I believe he would have picked up his "Pacifist of the Year" trophy, and Beaten Yoko Ono to death with it. (A service to Humanity...)
John Lennon was a shining example of my theory that illegal drug use leads to Liberalism.
My apathy for him and the Kennedys are to abundant for me to care, but it drives me nuts every year when jfk was killed the History Channel shows documentries on it all week.
