I guess it's true -- time heals all wounds. Today, June 4th, is the 16th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre. I came in to work tonight expecting to write reams of stories about all the commemorations around the world, but the only story I can see is about a candlelight vigil in Hong Kong. The territory is the only place on Chinese soil where people are still free to hold such demonstrations. Tiananmen Square itself is swarming with uniformed and plain-clothes police, prepared to pounce on anyone bold enough to unfurl a banner marking the date. Next stop: insane asylum. Watching the MSM, you wouldn't know that on this date 16 years ago, China's military killed hundreds -- perhaps thousands -- of students and activists in and around the square. There are two-thousand people missing from that night. Nobody knows whether they're dead or in some sort of labor camp. Everytime I see a product made in China, I wonder if one of those people had a hand in making it. Oh, one other notable event. Our Hong Kong bureau chief is having a BBQ at her home tonight.
