This Day in Republican History 06/04/05

June 4, 1860 Republican U.S. Senator Charles Sumner (R-MA) delivers his classic address, The Barbarism of Slavery You can view the text of his speech here. I'm posting a small excerpt just to make a point:
"Barbarous in origin, barbarous in law, barbarous in all its pretensions, barbarous in the instruments it employs, barbarous in consequences, barbarous in spirit, barbarous wherever it shows itself, Slavery must breed Barbarians, while it develops everywhere, alike in the individual and the society to which he belongs, the essential elements of Barbarism. In this character it is conspicuous before the world."
My point? Substitute the word "abortion" for the word "slavery" and you'll see that the "progressive" Democratic party hasn't progressed so much as one iota in the last 145 years. They've just switched to a different type of barbarism. Whenever there has been a moral choice to be made in this country, the Democrats have always come down on EXACTLY the wrong side of the fence. At the risk of sounding like nutcase Howard Dean -- the Democrats are the party of evil.
