This Day in Republican History 03/02/05
March 2, 1953
Republican Clare Booth Luce, U.S. Ambassador to Italy, becomes first woman to serve as ambassador to a major power.
I found it interesting that so many of her biographies on the Net fail to mention that Clare Booth Luce was Republican to the core and staunchly anti-Communist. It was she who said, "Communism is the opiate of the intellectuals, with no cure except as a guillotine might be called a cure for dandruff." Her accomplishments both as an American and as a woman, are too great to ignore, so the left has chosen to suppress that aspect of her life.
