The Time Lords

If you've been listening to liberal talking points lately, you've heard time and again that Republicans want to "turn back the clock." Republicans want to turn back the clock on women's rights. Republicans want to turn back the clock on "social justice." Republicans want to turn back the clock on race relations. And then there's Shirley Sherrod, who is about 12 minutes past her 15 minutes of fame, who says Republicans want to turn back the clock to the days when blacks were slaves. Never mind that slavery was a democrat institution and that Republicans sacrificed blood and treasure to smash it. So, let's do it. Let's turn back the clock. The question is how far? Here are a short list of dates that we could consider. May 23, 2003 U.S. Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) introduces bill to establish National Museum of African American History and Culture January 25, 2001 U.S. Senate Republican Policy Committee declares school choice to be “Educational Emancipation” April 26, 1999 Legislation authored by U.S. Senator Spencer Abraham (R-MI) awarding Congressional Gold Medal to civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks is transmitted to President August 20, 1996 Bill authored by U.S. Rep. Susan Molinari (R-NY) to prohibit racial discrimination in adoptions, part of Republicans’ Contract With America, becomes law November 21, 1991 President George H. W. Bush signs Civil Rights Act of 1991 to strengthen federal civil rights legislation June 29, 1982 President Ronald Reagan signs 25-year extension of 1965 Voting Rights Act September 15, 1981 President Ronald Reagan establishes the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, to increase African-American participation in federal education programs July 8, 1970 In special message to Congress, President Richard Nixon calls for reversal of policy of forced termination of Native American rights and benefits I could go on and on and on. But the point is, we could turn back the clock to when Republicans founded the NAACP or desegregated public schools or smashed the KKK (founded by democrats) or ended slavery. How about it, democrats? How far back should we turn that clock?

LR, in all of the years I have been reading your posts, this one is the most powerful yet. Well thought out; extremely well stated.

Hope others agree, and will disseminate it as widely as I.

Democrats are in total denial about their bloody history. Whenever they have been presented with a moral choice, they have come down on exactly the wrong side of the fence. Just give me a national atrocity and I'll show you how democrats were behind it.
