I just stumbled across this article, dated June 2004, from the East African Standard.
Kenyan-born US Senate hopeful, Barrack Obama, appeared set to take over the Illinois Senate seat after his main rival, Jack Ryan, dropped out of the race on Friday night amid a furor over lurid sex club allegations.

LR, although fun while it lasted, Snopes.com reports the AP release as FALSE:
However, the Associated Press made no such reference; the identification of Barack Obama as "Kenyan-born" was added to the Sunday Standard's version of the AP story by someone else (who misspelled the politician's given name as "Barrack" in the process) and is apparently unique to that publication.
Wow.
Odd that it would still be out there.
Vigillis: Since President BO took office, Snopes.com has bent over backward to twist, fold, spindle and mutilate the truth about anything concerning him.
Whether this report is true or not, we can no longer take Snopes.com's word for things political.
A better source (with which I have not checked on this issue) would be truthorfiction.com.
