The 9/12 Project

Here is the reason liberals loath Glenn Beck. He came up with the 9/12 Project -- Nine principles and 12 values that liberals sneer at and hate. The Nine Principles 1. America is good. 2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life. 3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday. 4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government. 5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it. 6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results. 7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable. 8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion. 9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me. The Twelve Values 1-Honesty 2-Reverence 3-Hope 4-Thrift 5-Humility 6-Charity 7-Sincerity 8-Moderation 9-Hard Work 10-Courage 11-Personal Responsibility 12-Gratitude

I know several Liberals, including some in my own family. My doctor nephew is a Liberal. He's also a Christian. He is very intelligent, as is his father (my brother).

I know both my brother and his doctor son share a belief in all of these principles, and yet, they remain Liberals. It is a mystery to me why they continue to be Liberals.

Then, I noticed you have added a 14th truth about Liberals, and I think that one explains it.

It's a work in progress.

Mark - I think I am/was/continuing to evolve like your brother and nephew.

Labels can be comforting - and it is hard to accept emotionally the label I am a conservative when conservatives are as equated with Republicans and or worse racists.[even though I know it is untrue.]

I think it comes down to me finally understanding I am not a bad person because I choose and know the GOVERNMENT should not and cannot do things for society the best way - and learning it is not the same thing as saying WE [the people or individuals] CANNOT AND SHOULD NOT do things for society as a whole. Because WE should but not our government.

I choose "we the people" not "we the goverment" to do for people what they cannot do for themselves.

John Stossel has shown time again on his one hour shows how the private citizens have done more to help out bad situations for people than the govnerment has ever been able to do. No red tape, no llame excuses for the slow up...just results when good people care. We see that in our daily lives. No government needed.

And just because I prefer things that way I am not a bad person. But I have to constantly remind myself of this.

I have to keep repeating that or I think I am a bad person because I do not want the govenrment to run healthcare or even the post office for that matter.

I want the government to do "just enough" but that does not mean I don't think we should do nothing "as people/individuals" for others - which is hard to keep distinguihsing when you are Christian want to help...and do not hate the idea of social justice.

I was a huge advocate for liberation theology - the kind of church Obama attended. I was a theology major so I read about it as much as possible. Then realized as I studied the NT and OT - social justice was really not Jesus' point...not that he would condone injustice carried out by two believers against each other.

And there lies the constant tension...for people like me...liberal sympathizers but consrevative thinkers.

Which maybe what bugs your brother and nephew...just a thought.
