There was a time when men were kind When their voices were soft And their words inviting There was a time when love was blind And the world was a song And the song was exciting There was a time Then it all went wrong I dreamed a dream in time gone by When hope was high And life worth living I dreamed that love would never die I dreamed that God would be forgiving Then I was young and unafraid And dreams were made and used and wasted There was no ransom to be paid No song unsung, no wine untasted But the tigers come at night With their voices soft as thunder As they tear your hope apart And they turn your dream to shame He slept a summer by my side He filled my days with endless wonder He took my childhood in his stride But he was gone when autumn came And still I dream he'll come to me That we will live the years together But there are dreams that cannot be And there are storms we cannot weather I had a dream my life would be So different from this hell I'm living So different now from what it seemed Now life has killed the dream I dreamed.

Inspiration
I dare you to watch this video without shedding a tear. It is sweeping the shows on Fox News and has huge viewership on YouTube. Forty-seven-year-old unemployed Susan Boyle is just an average woman who lives in a "collection of villages" in England. "Never been married, never been kissed." She dreams of being a professional singer. When asked why singing hasn't worked out for her, she says she's never been given the chance before. Of course, you can see the derision when she says she wants to be like Elaine Paige, who is a huge deal in British theater. But, when Susan Doyle starts singing, magic happens. I think her voice is better than Paige's. This woman's life will never be the same, simply because she was given a chance. I believe everyone has magic in them -- as Rush would say, "talent on loan from God." Her choice of a song tells it all.
We have entered an era in our history when the dream killers have seized power and are trying their hardest to destroy the American dream. We must all find the magic within us to fight back.

This video, and several others of the same incident, has collectively, well over 20 million hits on youtube.
I linked to it myself two days ago. Besides her beautiful voice and the beautiful rendition of the song, I was struck by the difference in the audience and judges reaction before she sang, and then, after she sang.
Watching cynics become supporters in the first second isn't the point. Both my brother (A college vocal music professor)and my sister (Who has performed in opera with the great Samuel Ramey)can sing better. But she demonstrated, perception isn't always reality.
And don't we all thank God for that?
I just love her! In interviews she seems so shy, but man, can she sing! :)
I can only wonder what she'd sound like with professional training. I'm going to be first in line to buy her first album.
The sharks are already circling. Hopefully, she won't let them change her.
Did you note Simon's eyebrow go up after the first TWO notes???
Yup, she nailed everyone in under five words.
