Oops

German police are back to square one. For two years they tracked a phantom killer whose DNA was found at dozens of crime sites.

Her DNA was found over and over again: in bottles, tank lids, on bullets – and once even on a biscuit!

Traces were found in southern Germany, Austria and France. Thousands of saliva tests were taken but there was still no answer.

Turns out the DNA came from a woman who worked at the factory that manufactured the swabs used to collect the DNA samples. I'd say the German police are red-faced, but Germans naturally have ruddy complexions.
