Marley and Me
I just saw that movie yesterday. It was very good. Great dog story but a great movie about marriage too. Why is it that men always tell the honest view of marriage in movies?! I thought "Knocked Up" was a great movie about marriage too. Best line from that movie is..."Marriage is just like the show 'Everybody loves Raymond' except it's not funny!"
My life is in the middle of the movie where they are raising the small kids and would prefer to kill each other than stay married, but it was nice to see in the movie that it does get better! I am counting on it.
Not seen a woman movie writer or director do it truthfully unless it is about a woman getting beaten in her own marriage or something.
It was a little too soon for me to see that movie after having just lost one of my dogs. So I freaked out the 6 year old next to me...crying. Not sure why they brought a 6 year old to this movie. It is not "My Dog Skip," but whatever. Kid stared at me the last 30 minutes of the movie straight!

Yeah...it seems in the commercials that kids might get a laugh or two from it, but from what I've heard (and I hav enot seen the flick), it is not really a kid's film.
I ran into my neighbors in the theater lobby when we were there to see "Bedtime Stories." They said the same about "Marley and Me"--the whole theater was sniffing by the end. I think my son decided he didn't want to see it after all.
The movie is taken from a best-selling book. Marley's owner was on the "Dog Whisperer" to fix a few other misbehaving dogs. Had he called Cesar Milan earlier, he wouldn't be famous.
You got that right LR! DOG was not "show" material that is for sure. But still a nice story.
However you will be horrified and I do mean HORRIFIED!! when you see the cameo of Kathleen Turner in this movie. She looks so bad I felt sorry for her and it was not for the movie. I know she looks like that now.
I never really cared for "cute animal" movies. I think the last one I really enjoyed was "The Yearlng" and I embarrassed myself by sniffling at the end.
Speaking of tear jerking movies, I watched a good one New Years Eve at my friends church. It was called, "Flywheel". It was the first film produced by a Georgia Church's film ministry, and to their surprise, it went all the way to video stores across the country. Next, they produced a film called "Facing the Giants" which I first saw on Showtime, on TV. It was about a football team at a Christian academy, and it was very good, but I thought "Flywheel" was better.
Mark Levin wrote a good book about his rescue dog, Sprite, entitled "Rescuing Sprite" --duh! but it is a heart wrenching story as well.
judging by the box office, it looks like Jennifer Aniston is giving Brad Pitt a run for his money...
Kathleen Turner was always one of my favorites. I love her slightly husky voice and sorta plain looks compared to other Hollywood glamor girls. She has had a rough life. Severe arthritis, pain killers, alcoholism and just the Hollywood lifestyle. I've never seen her in a theater, since I don't go to movies often. She was perfect in the V.I. Warshawski movies. That was a good series of books too, until the author got all feminist and preachy and used her writing as a platform to promote abortion. "Serial Mom" was a hoot too.
