My Good Deed for the Day

UPDATE: He's had that car since 2002. I can't imagine how many thousands of dollars he's burned unnecessarily. He's very grateful. So, before I left work this morning, I buttonholed a coworker who also owns a Corvette. I told him that I put 4300 miles on my jalopy and got about 28 miles to the gallon. We agreed that 'vettes are good on gas and he said his gets better mileage than his other car. ME: So, why did you drive your other car to work last night? HIM: I parked the 'vette because I can't afford to buy gas. ME: But you said the 'vette got better mileage than this car. HIM: Yeah, but I can't afford to buy gas for it. ME: What, this car doesn't use gas? HIM: What are you talking about? ME: What are YOU talking about? Turns out, he was under the impression that he could put only Supreme in the car or it would ruin the engine. I informed him that a 'vette can use regular as long as it has a minimum octain of 87. All that would happen is he'd lose some acceleration. And who wants to accelerate fast enough to go airborne? I didn't ask how long he'd owned that car, but that's the first question I'll have when I see him again. It cost me $65 to fill my tank this morning, so I can't imagine how much money he's burned up. Moral: Always read the operator's manual.

My son has an LS1 in his Trans Am and for him to lose one horse power of acceleration would be a disaster...
