The Lost Weekend
I recall leaving work Tuesday morning, OVERJOYED that my weekend was finally upon me. Then, the next thing I knew, I was back at work Friday night. I have just a few flashes of my weekend.
I went to bed about noon Tuesday, thinking I'd get a nap and then go to bed again later. I didn't know it would be 20 HOURS later. Yup, I woke up at 8 am Wednesday, feeling just as tired as I did the day before. I pretty much just blew the rest of my Wednesday watching things I'd Tivoed over the weekend. Went to bed at 9 pm and woke up 15 HOURS later! And I was still tired.
Showered and as I was feeding the fish, I noticed that the recliner that has been the center of my life for about the last five years was looking mighty sad. When I sit in it, it sort of slumps to one side and it has become lumpy and bedraggled. SO, guided by my navigation system, I drove 10 miles to the nearest Laz-Y-Boy store and bought their biggest recliner. With vibration. And heat. They're delivering it Tuesday.
While driving back home, I was listening to Hopalong Cassidy on XM radio and suddenly a message popped up on my screen telling me that Sean Hannity was on and asking if I wanted to change channels. I stuck with Hoppy. But apparently, my radio keeps track of my listening habits and tells me when something is on that I might want to hear. Now, a liberal would have driven his car into a ditch, ripped out the radio and thrown it as far as he could before that information could be transmitted to the secret government agency that's keeping track of all his movements. But, I just grinned. How cool. I slept all night Thursday and all day Friday. Didn't add it up, but even my cats were becoming annoyed with me. While I was sleeping, there was nobody to brush them and play with them and otherwise wait on them hand and foot.
I believe this is the first time I have ever had two gigantic natural disasters occur at the same time. So, I'm busy all night, writing about the earthquake in China and the cyclone in Burma. And when I'm not doing that, I'm writing about the corruption in China and the xenophobia in Burma. It's exhausting work. Even though I hardly move from my chair.
Anyhoo, it's Sunday morning, and I'm heading back to bed. I might wear that out before they deliver my chair.
