What's In My Head

Nobody can think about just one Buck Owens song. I was making a grocery run yesterday in preparation for the huge snow and ice storm -- which never materialized -- and a little blond girl with her mother yelled, "Are you a cowboy?" "I used to be," I said back. She seemed happy with that reply. It was my hat. In another wardrobe malfunction, I was at the post office awhile back and some old geezer (anyone a year older than I am) walked up to me and said, "Do you know the song, Shuffle Off to Buffalo?" Me: "I know OF it, but I haven't heard it in decades." Geezer: "So you haven't sung it lately?" Me: "Nope." And, he walked off leaving me puzzled for a few seconds. Then, I realized I was wearing my Buffalo Soldiers jacket. I dread the day. I'm already feeling urges to strike up conversations with total strangers in line and tell people one of their tires is low.

What, you weren't carrying as well??

Is there something I'm missing, besides the obvious Buffalo connection, to the song and your jacket? Perhaps it's before my time. ;)

Can't carry on federal property. Just the word "buffalo" seemed to trigger the incident. I DO know the words to "Buffalo Girls."

So. Are we to assume that geezerhood is always going to be just one year away until you shuffle off this mortal coil?

That's about the size of it. I mean, we never know. It could be tomorrow, and I'm not going to give up my youth before I'm ready.
