- Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.
CALLER: Hi, Rush. Listen, I don't think the media gets it. I don't think these Republican pundits get it. I'm 50 years old. I've been a Republican since I was a child because my mother was a Republican Party precinct leader, and I have never voted in a federal election for anybody but the Republican candidate, not because they were Republican, but because they were conservative. I cannot vote for John McCain. I don't care what he says between now and -- RUSH: Why not? Why not? I hear so many people say that, why not? CALLER: Because, as Thomas Sowell so well put it, you know, people are looking at it, he betrayed us. You know, Hillary and Obama can go out there and be liberal and say what they are. He said he was one of us. And then, because he lost an election, he turned around, and because he hated Bush, you know, he always has to hate somebody, he hated us, he hated the conservatives, he hated the Christian right, he turned around and slapped us over and over and over again. He twice wanted to leave the party, and now the Republicans have the audacity to ask me, a person who has supported them, given them money, given them time, to support this man. I'm not going to do it. I don't care what he says. He can reincarnate Reagan and run with him; I will not vote for this man for president. And this hurts. This is a hard thing, to come to this realization. RUSH: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait a minute. Are you just going to not vote, or are you going to go out there and vote for the Democrats? CALLER: At this point, I'm not going to vote. If I think McCain can win, I will vote for the Democrats, but I do not want him as a representative of all the things Republicans have fought for, and Rush, I'm not the only one. Nobody in my family, I know a lot of people, my husband, his wife, my cousin, his wife, my grown children. Nobody gets this.Wrong attitude. What this caller doesn't get is if McCain loses, a Democrat will win. What else is there to get? Regardless of how liberal McCain is, the worst Republican is better than the best Democrat. And there are no longer any good Democrats. I'd vote for a Democrat if the candidate were someone like Zell Miller. But he isn't running. He isn't even in politics. The Democrats have squeezed all men of character out of their party. They are now all a bunch of raving loons. Even JFK would not be welcome in this modern party. Say what you will about McCain, this is a guy who refused to be released after two years as a POW because he wanted to stay with his men. He stayed another four years and was tortured in ways that made waterboarding look like what it is -- pouring water in someone's face. He has the courage of his convictions. True, his convictions are a bit strange, but not as strange as B.O., who would not even oppose abortionists who toss a baby into a tray after a botched abortion to let it die of exposure. His convictions are not as strange as Hillary, who would attempt to turn this country into the Soviet Union part Deux. There are indications that he would appoint Supreme Court Justices who are actually guided by the Constitution. Even if that is a faint hope, there is no hope that any Democrat would do that. If there is one thing that history has taught us, it is that no one person can destroy this country. We survived four years of Jimmy Carter, for crying out loud! Even John McCain would have looked pretty good halfway through Carter's administration. So, if you have to hold your nose to vote, practice being ambidextrous before election day. But vote! And vote RINO. In other news, Hillary made a five-million-dollar LOAN to her campaign. She sure has grown as a person, hasn't she? No more penny-ante scams that are crudely covered by cattle futures investments. But she's still too greedy to INVEST five million bucks in her campaign the way many other fatcat politicians have done, even though she's estimated to be worth more than 40 million bucks. If you're wondering what Zell Miller is doing these days,
In August 2005, President Bush appointed Miller to the American Battle Monuments Commission.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association.
On the home front, I saw an article last week that said caffeine cause blood sugar to rise. So, I dropped coffee and Coke Zero. After my first full day without caffeine, my blood sugar plunged 100 points overnight. Guess it works. Good bye Coke Zero. Hello, decaff coffee. gak.

Why did you have to say that about caffeine? I bleed diet coke and cannot start my day without two cups of Dunkin Donuts coffee ground from whole beans in my coffee pot.
NOW IT'S ALL RUINED...
The one legal stimulant I can take and now this. I thought coffee was an awesome anti-oxidant?? Isn't that more important?
Thanks for putting Super Tuesday in persepctive.
It was anarchy among my friends and family.
My Republican brothers (3 of them) want to move out of the US now. I told them where are you going to go? you won't find a Republican in Canada?
While I get the point about he may appoint some what conservitive justices. I keep going back to what the Republican party was trying to sell last year at this time where the party basically has told conservatives to just take the beating. The party seams to expect whatever goop they throw against the wall we'll vote for and ask for more.
Being a Federalist, I don't owe the Republican party anything, especially since the party as a whole has done nothing to promote conservatism. While I fully intend to write-in Fred because I would rather follow my conscience rather than vote against someone who's going to trounce the lesser of two evils because there is just a little difference.
But this is just my plug nickle
I'm glad to see that there's someone who sees things the way I do.
I heard Hillary's speech the other day and she is now advocating surrender in Iraq.
And some Conservative Republicans are talking about voting for her if McCain is our party's nominee. Even Ann Coulter is saying that. That distresses me as much as if she joined the Democratic party.
At least I am confident that McCain will "stay the course". I don't think any of us can say that of Republicans, particularly after Hillary's speech on Tuesday.
I am concerned about what policy McCain will take with illegal immigration, but on the quiz I took the other day, I noticed none of the candidates on either side agreed with me, so on that issue he can't hurt us anymore than Romney could.
I think Illegal immigration is more than a serious strain on our economy. It is as much of a National security issue as it was when the subject gained national prominence. I think I will write an entry on that subject.
Let's not forget that the Clintons are pathological liars. They will lie to anyone for any reason, or no reason at all. She could very well by lying about withdrawing from Iraq just to get the far-left loon vote -- or not. That's why I don't even pay attention to what she says.
Coffee is good for the heart, but not good for blood sugar, apparently. Depends on what problems you need to address. If you aren't diabetic, don't worry about it.
I'm not sure where your brothers could move that is less chaotic than here, other than Switzerland. But they have some pretty stiff immigration laws. That's WHY they are less chaotic.
OK, Kemo, look. We're not going to vote for the socialists. But let us rant and rave against McCain for a while longer.
Second, didn't you really mean to say "part deux" (Maybe your Latin teacher didn't rap your knuckles hard enuff with his ruler to keep you awake in class).
And as far as caffeine goes, you know they eventually will come out with studies that show EVERYTHING, including fresh air, both GOOD and BAD...
So do what I do every morning: Brew up 1/2 regular and 1/2 decaf, with a white tea bag in it, sans sugar.
I know, GAK!
And give up the soda, drink your whiskey straight.
Once you accept that we're on the downhill slide of the bell curve of our Republic, and there's nothing you can do to stop the irreversible onslaught of history, you'll sleep better at night...(sigh).
New York's not in play, so I can leave the top spot on my ballot blank in protest. I'll vote GOP all the way down the ticket, but there'll be at least one less vote for McCain than all the other Republicans in my state.
Here's a guy who was negotiating with Daschel to leave the GOP in 2001, flipping it to the Dems, until that senile turkey Jeffords beat him to it and undermined his negotiating position. And now he wants me to vote for him out of party loyalty! Yeah, sure.
Of course, if I lived in Florida or some other swing state, I'd have to do the hold-your-nose thing, not really for him but against the Dem.
Deux corrected. Deus passed the spell-checker. Deux does not. Thus the error. Who takes Latin in North Dakota?
The problem with voting your conscience and voting in protest is you wake up the next morning and realize you have to live with the consequences for the next four years. That moment of pride and accomplishment when you pulled the lever fades remarkably fast. I know all of McCain's faults, but he's what we've got. One thing he will do is protect us from terrorists.
Whiskey? Is that the stuff that comes in the jug with the three Xs on it?
LR you need to send your post to Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter.
They are not "seeing" it.
As far as living with the consequence with a protest vote, I've thought about little else since Senator Thompson left.
I realize what could happen, but at the same time the consequences of voting for someone that is trying to act like someone they aren't is pretty close to being just as bad.
I'm thinking the best option is to push conservatives for congress and let the mule chips fall where they may.
Maybe you're right...
Who needs principles, or convictions anyway... After all, those things might cost us the election!
And, if we are going to put our beliefs on hold, and just do the most politically expedient thing, then McCain is the PERFECT candidate to represent us in November!
So, hold your noses, and get ready to go down with the ship!
This makes me sick!
But fortunately, I will soon have free Socialized Medicine...
Thanks a lot, Republican Party...
NORMALLY, I would agree with you and allow a Democrat to take the election. Then, we could oppose him and the Republicans would win the favor of the fickle voters and take over Congress again, just as they did during the former Clinton administration. But, these aren't normal times. We are a nation at war. If Hillary fights as dirty against the terrorists as she does against her enemies, we have a chance of holding our ground. But remember her track record for screwing up everything she touches. As far as B.O. goes, he's such a youngster that the terrorists will be able to distract him with a shiny object in one hand, while they slip a knife into his gut with the other.
Remember, this isn't the first time we've been faced with this situation. More people voted against Bill Clinton than for him both in 1992 and 1996, but because Republicans didn't all get behind their candidate (stayed home or voted for Perot) we had eight nauseating years under the Clintons. We are still suffering the consequences of that administration through his court appointments, lack of concern for the terrorist threat and total disregard for the safety of our nuclear secrets.
Also remember that the Democrats are also in a mess. They are split between sex (not gender) and racial lines. Are blacks going to stay home if Hillary gets the nomination? Are whites going to stay home if B.O. gets the nomination?
There are probably millions of people in this country who could lead the Republicans out of the wilderness, but none of them want anything to do with politics and we elect our politicians from the wealthy political class. The only way THAT will change is to form a new party. And the time to form a new party or start running a truly conservative candidate is the DAY after the election. Which one of you wants to spearhead the task?
This must be the way people felt when the Whigs went wonky on slavery and the Republican party was founded.
Virginia's primary is next Tuesday. Now that Romney has suspended his campaign, (What does that portend, anyway?) There are really only three choices left. McCain, Huckabee, and Paul. (erg)
McCain has all but sewn up the nomination now, so when I hit the polls on Tuesday, I will lodge my protest vote by writing in Duncan Hunter. If they allow write-ins.
I know it will send less of a message to the Republicans than the sound of a BB rattling around in a boxcar, but it's the principle of the thing to me.
Anyway, now that McCain is the inevitable nominee, it doesn't really matter who I vote for in the Virginia primary.
If he is my party's nominee I will vote for him in the general election, but I don't have to now.
I don't think Virginia allows write-ins in primaries. I was going to stay home anyway, but now you've given me a noble reason for being lazy.
Oh, clarification on the caffeine thing. It raises blood sugar about 9% after breakfast, 12% after lunch and 27% after dinner. So I can still get away with a cup in the morning. Gotta use up all that dark roast I have.
