My Deteriorating Blog
I've never been one for self-examination. I didn't know I had a birth mark until my wedding night. But I had cause to go back through some of my older posts the other night in search of some obscure facts and thought to myself, "wow, this is some good stuff!" Of course, I then examined the entries of the last year or so and thought to myself, "wow, this is awful." It seems my posting has not only become less frequent, but the posts are of less quality.
I don't know what's going on. Maybe I've waxed poetic (whatever that means) about every subject under the sun. Maybe my medication has made me more mellow and less prone to outrage. Maybe I'm burned out.
Any thoughts?

Kimosabe,
I still enjoy your blog. Blogging is a wonderful outlet and gives everyone (that wants one) a soapbox... However, I think like anything else... the newness eventually wears off and we move on to other interests... and there isn't anything wrong with that. I understand completely where you are coming from. Don't stop blogging
You understand how people move on to other interests....but you don't want me to stop blogging.
You wouldn't be running for president, would you?
Yours is the first blog we read in the morning. I used to enjoy the republican facts stuff. Your blog has become more personal over the last year or so, and that is a good thing. One thing you could stop doing is talking about cats...( you need a dog, badly)
Keep up the good work, don't be so hard on yourself. --Rick
I've noticed the same thing about my own blog. When I go back and look at previous posts, particuarly previous years, I think, "Wow! That is really a good post!" These days I am generally unsatisfied with the points I make and am convinced I could do a lot better.
I think the problem is, things haven't changed very much since we started blogging. Liberals are still idiots, and Conservatives still don't take advantage of that weakness.
In short, I think there is just nothing more to say other than what we've already commented about.
Boy, do I know how you feel. Twice, I've shut down blogs just as they were starting to gain some readership. I just felt that I'd said everything I had to say. But, after a few months, I'd feel recharged and would start all over again.
It's not as easy as it looks. Like you, I'm going through the doldrums once more. I'm not going to shut down this time - just gonna take it easy, maybe just post articles I like with little or no comment, until my battery fills up again.
At your best, you're one of the top conservative commentators in blogosphere (in my very well-informed opinion). So promise us you won't go away completely, even if you feel you need a break.
It's called evolving. And we are just getting to know every part of you...you know all your "zones."
Once you have articulated all your thoughts in one area you get burned out and move on to another area. But eventually you get a second wind.
Depends on what is going on in your life.
You moved and bought a really neat car let's not forget it. Sometimes things just need to be all about you instead of your thoughts being all about the world.
Soon you will move on again and something "will light a fire..." as they say.
But in some ways I believe for you it has not all been "burn out," but likely "disgust," leaving without anything you want to say.
You used to do a thing, "a year ago I posted this"...I liked that. Maybe you could do that for a while. Remember the truth never changes so I am sure the posts are still timely. :)
Hey...if your blog is deteriorating...and WE read it everyday...what does that say about us?
Don't listen to Rick--the cat stories are fine! ;)
I like reading your blog because it includes the stuff you think AND the stuff you do. I wish I could find the umph to do it at my place.
I do have to say I liked the Republican facts stuff, too. Maybe some Democrat facts. It would have to be a cinch to find just how many things they've done wrong. :)
Mark, with a little tweaking from an editor, the posts on your blog would be the equal of any professional columnist I've ever seen. They are well thought out, the thoughts are logically arranged and you don't ramble. But, as we've discussed before, I just don't have the patience to deal with people who just come around to fight. Frankly, that's why I don't post there more often. You'll notice that liberals never seem to post here. It isn't that they don't try. I just delete their comments. It isn't what they say, it's how they say it. It must be exhausting to be so angry and bitter 24/7. You'd think they could understand and follow my simple, five-point comment policy, but it seems beyond them.
As far as my "This Day in Republican History," I had a little tiff with the author. He accused me of taking the material from his blog, when I was actually taking it from the calendar he wrote for the RNC and they distributed on the Internet. Rather than argue the point, I just discontinued it. I had the link to his site on my short but high-quality blogroll for awhile, but the few number of out-clicks to there didn't justify keeping it.
As for features I've come up with, I just forget to do them and after awhile, they fade into history. Maybe I should put a Post It note on my monitor.
Hard to believe I'm into my fourth year of blogging. I'd never heard of a blog until someone mentioned that Michelle Malkin had one and I found it. I started two lame blogs before I did this one.
I read your blog along with Drudge, Free Republic and Michelle Malkin, in now particular order, every morning. I would say, your humility has made me a better person. You have taught me not to get mad at everything I disagree with. You are a lot like Rush in that aspect, enjoy your life and laugh at things a little more. Use logic and not emotion when looking at politics. I enjoy your blog, whether you want to quit or not, I will leave that up to you. BTW, your not the first blogger to go through this!
I agree...Mark you have the greatest blog.
A blog as they were intended.
I still enjoy your blog and check it almost every day. There are times when it is lame. But, its worth waiting for the good stuff.
You may be getting complacent. Look, we are all busy in our lives (you know - making a living, trying to get some recreation, spend time with our families, maybe even live a little...) but I have found that when it looks quiet out there, I take some time and follow the referral links on my own site (not news items but recommended reading, blogroll, etc.) and I run across very much!
It's all good - keep doing what you're doing...
I do miss the "this day in Republican history" updates though...
I'm sorry I got in on this one so late...
Your's is still the first blog that I check every day, (then Mark's), and the only thing I have ever thought you were wrong about was a post several months ago about CiCi's Pizza. (How good does $5 all you can eat pizza have to be?)
(But that's a personal preference issue anyway, so I digress...)
You're doing fine.
It's just that after a while, a steady diet of politics gets so boring.
Your's is one of the only blogs that I know of that has stayed interesting.
