He was one of the actors who portrayed a gay sheepherder in that one movie from a couple of years ago that ticked off real cowboys because Hollywood can't tell the difference between sheepherders and cowboys. Now we know; Cowboys are attracted to beautiful woman like Maureen O'Hara, Barbara Stanwyck, etc..

Sheepherders are attracted to Jake Gyllenhaal.

Too many Ambien...maybe he [his family] will sue.

Can't these people think of a new way to die...i.e. pills???

I liked him in "Knight's Tale." Other than that, I don't know much about him either.

Rats. Now I have to Google Jake Gyllenhaal.

Nope. No clue. Guess I'm just out of touch with mainstream society. I didn't see a single one of the movies nominated for an Oscar this year either. Can't remember the last time I was in a theater.

This is a real shame...

LR - I think you would be traumatized if you rented and watched "Brokeback Mountain."

But JMR made a good point. Didn't know the distinction between sheepherder and cowboy.

A gay sheepherder is a step-up from what us cowpokes say about them.

The way the media is treating this you'd think Billy Graham would have died unexpectedly.

He was good in "the Patriot" with Mel Gibson but really hadn't seen him in much else.

I think he might of been the new Brad Pitt. He died way too soon.

What's the difference between a sheepherder and a shepherd? No, this is not a riddle. I honestly don't know. If you're not on horseback, you're a shepherd? Is that it?
The movie was grossly overrated, by the way (in addition to being disgusting). But the only reason it didn't win the Best Movie oscar was that it was shot in Canada to save money, annoying the voters, most of whom live and draw paychecks in LA.

A sheepherder herds sheep on the open range. A shepherd watches over a flock in a limited area -- usually protecting them from predators rather than herding them from place to place. Also, "shepherd" has a Biblical connotation that westerners were probably loath to apply to a group of people who were so hated. Those old legends about cattle not drinking or grazing after sheep have been proved to be bogus. Actually, they get along quite well together and eat different types of plants. If introduced early, sheep will imprint cattle and the cattle will protect them from coyotes.

Yes that was a very overrated movie...Brokeback Mountian.

Thansk for the clraifiation about Shpeeh herders. That distinction was totally lost on me.

Now I can't wait to dazzle them at the next dinner party because I know HEath and that movie will come up!!

BTW -- speaking of gay movies should I be concerned that my 2 year old son will not stop watching the musical HAIRSPRAY with John Travolta as a woman? LOVES THE MUSIC...and his Nana lets him see it!

His first sentence came from the movie..."AND DON'T YOU TOUCH MY CAN TUNA!!"

All I can say is that the Lord works in strange ways. I am sick of hollywood stabbing America in the heart[land] over and over again. This guy was a participant in another movie to insult the heartland of America - cowboys - by making them gay. What a stupid movie and anyone that participated in it. I am not glad he is dead but cetainly have more concern for every American soldier who has given his/her life for this country than I do for another Hollywood idiot.
