Oops

The associated press has killed their Paris Hilton/drunken elephant story. That means Paris hasn't found a cause after all. Usually, when you see a story that has direct quotes from people, you can have faith that it's true, but looking at the story again, it really does look like a prank.
GAUHATI, India (AP) - In a Nov. 13 story, The Associated Press incorrectly reported that Paris Hilton was praised by conservationists for highlighting the problem of binge-drinking elephants in northeastern India. Lori Berk, a publicist for Hilton, said she never made any comments about helping drunken elephants in India.

Awww, that's too bad. Drunk elephants seemed to have been right up her alley! :)

I fell for it because I've written my share of drunken elephant stories. There seems to be a debate in the scientific community about whether an elephant can get drunk.
