Kid Nation Update

OK, so I watched the premiere of Kid Nation on Wednesday. It wasn't all that bad, kinda like a pint-size version of Survivor. Contrary to all the promos, the kids do get guidance from an adult, Jeff Probst-type, who tells them how to organize, etc. They will have weekly town meetings at which one kid will be given a gold (literally) star worth $20,000. Also, at every town meeting, kids will be given the opportunity to go home. Unfortunately, the cutest, most interesting kid, eight-year-old Jimmy, went home the first meeting. One of the kids on the town council is 12-year-old Laurel, who was described as a pageant contestant. When asked a question, (I forget what it was) she mumbled something about world peace, Africa, world peace, African orphans and world peace. This kid has a future in beauty pageants. She looks, but the brain power of Sally Fields. If you're interested, the first episode is here. What I'm wondering is, I lived in New Mexico for a number of years and never heard of a ghost town called Bonanza City. If I had, I'd have been all over it with my camera and metal detector. The Internet tells me there is nothing left but foundation outlines, so the TV show must have rebuilt it. I'd go back and look for it, but I hear my ex is moving back there. I learned that New Mexico has a LOT of ghost towns.

I turned on the show at the exact moment that little boy asked to go home. It was so sweet.

That show doesn't sound like fun to me at that age whereas angry teenagers who hate living under their parents might fair better and enjoy it...and maybe learn all over again that they still need mom and dad.

I gave this show about 15 minutes, then moved on. It just seems like a compilation of a number of Saturday morning kid shows--nothing to interest adults here.

I thought the ghost town buildings looked phony (not weather ravaged enuff to suit me) -sort of like a western movie set
