.

This song has been rattling around in my head all night. Jimmie Rodgers. Look at that unusual guitar fingering.

LR, so your readers are not confused ... Jimmie Rodgers (September 8, 1897 -– May 26, 1933) was the first country music superstar, resulting in another commonly used nickname: The Father of Country Music. James Frederick Rodgers (born September 18, 1933, Camas, Washington) is sometimes classified as a rock and roll singer, but his style was more typical of traditional pop music. He is not related to the legendary country singer of the same name.

Very well, LR, but you say his fingering is unusual; I am guessing that you, also play guitar?

I thought I'd let them look it up for themselves.

It looks like he tuned the guitar to an open chord, and then just barred the whole thing with his thumb.

I saw Dolly Pardon do that a long time ago, but she had ridiculously long fingernails.

Using that technique, I could probably teach someone who had never seen a guitar to play songs in about three minutes.

If performance was more important to you than artistry, that would be a good method.

It would be almost impossible to make a mistake...

That would also make all those key changes REALLY easy...

You could market a guitar coarse in an infomercial. How do you look in sunglasses and a Zorro hat?
