CHILD ABUSE!

Have you heard about the new CBS reality show, Kid Nation? Seems they turned 40 kids from ages 8 to 15 loose in a New Mexico ghost town for 40 days without adult supervision to build a society. Think, Lord of the Flies. The show hasn't even aired yet, and already people are talking about child abuse. The pooor kids had to work long hours doing dangerous and exhausting tasks for little pay. Sounds like me on my uncle's ranch. One girl got burned by grease while cooking. Four drank bleach, yada, yada yada. Oh, there was child abuse alright, but most of it took place at home before these kids had even auditioned for the show. On the Web site, each kid has a bio in which he or she is asked a series of questions. Let's take a look. WHAT WORLD LEADER DO YOU ADMIRE? 11-year-old Guylan: (Someone call Homeland Security!)
Fidel Castro is a world leader that I admire for many reasons. Firstly, he led a revolution against a corrupt government ruled by an evil dictator named Fulgencio Batista. Then he went on to lead the country of Cuba by ousting their existing political system in order to instill a socialist government throughout the country. That meant out with the rich and corrupt and in with a more fair and balanced environment for his people. Although he has not always been fair nor kind in how he governed, he is like the energizer bunny, he just keeps going and going and going…! And no matter how many times we try to assassinate him, he just doesn't die. Although it is more difficult for his country to succeed due to the embargo banning trade with Cuba, he and his people have persevered and shown the USA that we can kick him and fight him all the way, but he just won't fall down.
9-year-old Alex: (First learn to wipe your nose, then opine on global issues) Al Gore. I read the book 'The Inconvenient Truth' which helped me understand the importance of global warming. I admire the fact that Al Gore has committed himself to champion this worthy cause. WHO HAVE BEEN SOME OF THE WORST PRESIDENTS AND WHY? 12-year-old Laurel: (Let's see YOUR MBA from Harvard.)
I'm not sure if President Bush will read this (probably not) and I don't want to hurt his feelings but I am not to happy with his decisions. I believe he vetoed a bill that would allow children to get access to free health care. The whole War going on that he is in favor of and I am strongly not in favor of. There has been a lot of lying and deception with this President. He does not seem real bright like a president should be.
14-year-old Sophia: (This kid must cry herself to sleep every night and wake up screaming every morning.)
I think George W. Bush takes the cake. The planet is disintegrating, we're fighting an unnecessary war, millions are without health care, the school system has gone down the toilet, the country is billions of dollars in debt, the world seems to be headed on a path towards destruction, and America's hypocrisy is mocked by many nations. I think that merits recognition.
Now, Taylor obviously has normal parents (i.e. conservatives), because it looks like nobody has been messing with her bio or her head. She says things that a kid her age would say. She even got the two worst presidents right. You get the idea -- a 12-year-old saying the leader of the free world doesn't seem "real" bright. If someone had asked me when I was 12 what world leader I admired, I would have said Superman. And not one of those pansy modern Supermen with the satin costume and the rubber cape, the George Reeves Superman, who wore wool and never used the door. I didn't even know the WORD, "hypocrisy." Either these are the most politically-indoctrinated kids since the Hitler Youth, or their dishonest parents filled out the questionnaires. Liberals never pass up the chance to exploit children. I might, MIGHT watch the pilot, the way I would a horror movie (if I watched horror movies), but I won't watch any of the other episodes. If you care to tune in -- along with every pedophile in the WORLD -- it premiers on CBS Wednesday, Sep, 19 at 8 pm ET.

I'm not imaginative enough to make this up. Click the links and prepare to be disgusted.

Speaking of Superman...My Nic [1 1/2 years old] is going to be Superman for Halloween this year.. complete with fake muscles...

Does he know who Superman is? I guess at that stage of cuteness, you want a costume that doesn't require a mask.

How did you know? That is exactly why I chose it...and because of the cute fake muscles. He hates things on his face.

Honestly...LR I am starting to think you do know all.

NO WAY those kids wrote that crap...liberal lies.

Tonto: Hey, I've been a parent too.

Rick: What's amazing is whether it be the North Korean news service, Xinhua or the DNC, these people don't realize how phony and laughable their lies are.

Colton seemed like a normal 10 year old to me.

The world, particularly the way we view it, has changed since we were children. An eight-year-old today has been exposed to more information than our grandparents ever received in their entire lifetime.
When I was a kid, we had one television and the radio. The NEWS was something father watched while I did my homework or played outside; world events weren't important unless they directly impacted on my life at the time. Today however, every hour of every day, we are bombarded with world events to the point of over saturation; it's only natural that children are much more worldly at a younger age.
And it's almost a given that many adults find themselves inadequately equipped to deal with the constant onslaught of news and facts - let alone try and explain it to their children - so it's hardly surprising that a child's view of things has gone skew-wiff.
That being said, however, this is yet another atrocious example of a "reality show" that is in fact an alternative reality. It is highly unlikely that these children will ever find themselves in a situation ala "Lord Of The Flies", so to closet them together on a film set and give them free reign smacks of sociopathic voyeurism. Abuse thinly disguised as entertainment.
I understand Jane Elliot still receives death threats over her blue eyes good/brown eyes bad exercise. I wonder if anyone will care enough about this to say something to the network executives.

The times may have changed, but I don't think kids have. Kids don't read the New York Times at the breakfast table and discuss politics with their parents. They are as uninterested in world affairs as we were when we were kids. But they are being subjected to intense indoctrination by adults. When schools tell them the human race is headed for extinction, they suddenly start noticing the crazy things people are saying about global warming. When their parents tell them that Bush is the devil, they believe it, because parents are supposed to be their protector, not their brainwasher. It's the exploitation by adults that is making these kids different.

1. The kids won't be alone. the production crews will be there.

2. If those opinions are really the kids own opinions, we are in big trouble! Remember, they are the leaders of tommorrow.

3. Their parents wrote those profiles for them, of course, but they are the parents and many of those opinions will still be passed onto their children eventually. We can only hope and pray that the kids learn to think for themselves before they become adults, and start trying to implement their Communistic Liberal views.

The production crew was there, but was allowed to interact only in case of a medical emergency -- like in Survival.

You gotta wonder what kind of parents would even allow their kids to participate in something like this. I never let my kids out of my sight for more than eight hours (school). And we didn't even hire babysitters.
