The CatDog Strikes Again
So, I have a TV table next to my recliner. Under the table is a tall kitchen waste basket. There is about two inches between the top of the basket and the TV tray. The basket can't be tipped over because the arm of my recliner is preventing it. Yet, a few days ago, I came into the living room and found my recliner turned 45 degrees, the basket tipped over and trash spread all over. It was my CatDog Chito again. He figured out that by rotating my chair so the arm was out of the way, he could get into the trash basket.
Today, I found out how he does it. He lays on his back next to the chair and rotates it with his paws. He then jumps on the chair and grabs the waste basket and tips it. I saw him. I've never seen a cat with those cognitive skills before.
Today, I came in from a trip to the pet store and dropped a bag with two bags of dry cat food in it on the kitchen floor and went to take a nap. When I got up, both bags were ripped open, and cat food was spread all over the floor, despite the fact that the same food was in two cat bowls.
I seem to have a cat that is channeling the dog on K-9.

We learned long ago to notleave a bag of pet food in the bed of the truck unattended for more than 30 seconds while unloading other stuff--the cats love to use the bags as scratching posts--Just like if you leave a tool on the ground in the kennels, it ends up in some dog's mouth in a heartbeat!!
I've gone from the 5-second rule to the 2-second rule in my kitchen.
Smart animals - I've seen a couple videos like this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNTw7GH325U> where a bird bates some water with bread, waits for a fish to swim up and then catches the fish. The best video I saw like this was on one of those 'funniest video' shows, but the point is the same as this one.
If a bird with with the brain the size of a pea can figure this out, why can't Democrats figure out...well take you pick of any number of issues.
Some research has shown that parrots are smarter than dolphins. I owned birds for years and they are definitely intelligent.
That bird story is AMAZING! I never knew birds could bake bread!!
I had a wolf dog that was on a chain for a few months while we were constructing our kennels. One of the genius barn cats would taunt him everyday, by going into the circle of his chain, then darting back out at the last possible moment--It knew exactly how far the dog could get before the chain stopped him, and would retreat to just outside the zone. There was no motive for this activity on the cat's part that I could discern other than the fun of watching the dog's frustration.
I noticed that after awhile this dog started stopping short of the circle of his chain--I figured he was just tired of the game.
No way. He was actually luring the cat into a false sense of security and was conciously setting a trap. He displayed cunning planning and patience.
The game stopped one day when I found what was left of the cat's carcass--the hide with one rear leg attached...So it goes.
Waaait a minute. Wasn't that a Sylvester cartoon? Except for the cat's carcass part.
I think the birds buy the bread at the day-old bread store.
My little Pug puppy, Suzie, finds ingenius ways to get into the trash, too.
Rick, even being a cat lover, I have to admit to laughing. :)
