Republicans Gone Astray

The Republican Party was formed with a very specific purpose -- to stop Democrats from spreading slavery to the territories and free states. The party exceeded its goal by abolishing slavery altogether. It then went on to strike down black codes, Jim Crow, lynch law, segregation -- all the evils the Democrats could throw at them. But, as we saw with the immigration debate, the party has lost its way. It no longer has a soul. It stands for nothing. One of the presidential candidates, Rudy Giuliani, actually says he personally opposes abortion, but if other people want abortions, that's their business. Imagine what the history of this country would have been if Lincoln had said the same thing about slavery. So, I decided to compile a short list of common sense rules that would put the Republican Party on the straight and narrow again. 1. Democrats are the enemy. 2. Tax cuts ALWAYS work. 3. Business is none of the government's business. 4. Smaller government is better government. 5. If the Constitution doesn't address it, you can't do it. 6. God and guns are inalienable rights. Inalienable rights shouldn't even be debated. 7. Abortion is murder. 8. Honesty is the best policy. 9. Don't pass a law if you aren't going to enforce it. 10. Never, NEVER cut a deal with Ted Kennedy (see rule 1).
