Paris Burning

When I got to work tonight, I was happy to find that my organization is having nothing to do with the Paris Hilton story. Someone wrote a story about 3 PM Friday about her going back to jail, but the story never made it into the lineup. We also don't cover car chases in L.A. The 800-page immigration law died in the Senate as I knew it would. All that scheming behind closed doors was for naught. And who are the politicians blaming? Certainly not themselves for creating this nightmare of an amnesty bill. They're blaming talk radio for stirring up the people. How DARE the citizens of this country interfere with their legislating? I mean, what is this, a government of the people, by the people and for the people? This shows that the people still have power in this country. The people rose up to block Hillary from socializing our medical system. They protested again to prevent the unqualified Harriet Miers from being nominated to the Supreme Court. And now they have stopped yet another hideous Kennedy immigration bill. I just wish that the people would go on the offensive and force our politicians to reform the tax code and social security and to enforce immigration laws that are already on the books.

We can only hope that this bill stays in the trash bin, where it belongs. The government needs to try enforcing existing laws to "solve the immigration problem".
