Monkey Wrench in the System

So, despite it being 95 degrees outside, I had to get out of my apartment. I decided to have lunch at TGIF. I like their green bean fries and I had a hankering for a club sandwich. As I was eating, four young soldiers walked in wearing desert BDUs. That is an area with apartments, restaurants and stores, but there must be some kind of military facility around there, because I've seen people in uniform walking around before. On my way out, I asked the young guy at the door if it was possible to pay for the soldiers' lunches too. Vacant look. He said he had to talk to his manager. I guess this required a decision above his pay grade. So, he walked to the other side of the restaurant and talked to a guy in a short sleeve shirt and a tie -- restaurant manager uniform. They talked a LONG time, pointing at me occasionally. The manager walked over and the 3rd degree began. "You want to pay for one of them?" "No, I want to pay for all of them." "You know them?" "No." "You want to talk to them?" "No." "You want me to tell them?" "No." "Welll, I guess you can pay." They finally got the bill together and I paid. Their waiter said, "I've seen guys paying for women before, but I've never seen anything like this." "Well, that's cheesy," said I and then remembered that I'd done the same thing awhile back. Pretentious lefties call them "random acts of kindness," or "paying it forward." I prefer the old fashioned, "good deeds," and I try to do at least one a day. I've filled my quota, so now I can take a nap. I love to sleep during thunderstorms and it looks like one is rolling in.

Good for you!

It cracks me up when they look at you like you grew a second head when you ask to do things like that. I've paid for lunch for church missionaries before. The clerks seem to need visual aids to understand the concept. :)

Next time I'm around the old vet's home, I'll spring for a bowl of gruel.

Somehow, your actions do not surprise me, LR.

This wasn't entirely a selfless act. It just shows how easy it is to feel good about yourself. By making them feel good, I made myself feel good.
