Media Bias

I'm fuming. We got a story earlier tonight that US troops in Afghanistan had killed seven Afghan police in a friendly fire incident. The wires were quick to blame it on the Americans, saying US troops had attacked a police outpost. I wrote it with the qualifier that the Americans were "accused" of attacking the outpost. But it turns out that the police fired on the American patrol first, thinking they were Taleban. The wire services are not quick to report that. So far, only the Associated Press has corrected the story. There hasn't been a peep out of the French news agency or Reuters. And I can't correct the story until I get a second source to confirm it. So, here I sit. I'm wondering if they'll ever correct it. Oops, here we go. The spinning begins.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- Afghan police mistakenly thought U.S. troops on a nighttime mission were Taliban fighters and opened fire on them, prompting U.S. forces to return fire and call in attack aircraft, killing seven Afghan police, officials said Tuesday. JALALABAD, Afghanistan, June 12 (Reuters) - U.S.-led forces in Afghanistan mistakenly killed seven policemen in an air strike after Afghan forces came under attack from the Taliban and asked for help, a provincial official said on Tuesday. DATELINE:JALALABAD, Afghanistan, June 12, 2007 (AFP) - US-led soldiers and warplanes killed seven Afghan policemen in a midnight battle that erupted when both sides mistook each other for Taliban rebels, officials said Tuesday.
Do those three stories look even remotely alike? Time for me to perform my magic and write a story that tells the truth.

Blessings my friend:

You are BRAVE to say you will write the TRUTH. If you look up "Martyr" in the dictionary it says; (quite incorrectly I might add), "A person tortured or killed for their beliefs"...but as we are aware that Martyr is really from the GREEK that means; "To Witness". Which means the definition the dictionary gives isn't really of a Martyr at all but describes instead what society does to witnesses of the TRUTH, which is really a very different word altogether.
I've always said the media is ordered NOT to 'Report the TRUTH' but instead just 'Make the NEWS'.
