My new cat is great! I'm thinking of a name change. Maverick just doesn't fit. I'm leaning toward Chester. Any suggestions? I need a name before I take him to the vet Tuesday.
This cat purrs constantly! He purrs when he sleeps, purrs when he eats, even purrs when he's sitting and watching me clean the litter box. He is always at my feet, whether I'm sitting at the computer or walking around. Since he's the exact color of my carpet, I'm shuffling around like a Chinaman in a Warner Brothers cartoon so I don't step on him.
Ginger is acting with him the same way she acted with Gwen when I first brought her home. All the hissing makes my apartment sound like Snakes On A Plane. I half woke up Thursday night and saw three cats occupying three cat beds, so it isn't all bad news. Or, maybe that was a dream.
I had developed a code with Ginger. When she's in my lap and I need to get up and do something, I just give her two light pats and she'll jump off. No more. I tried to get up to do something in the kitchen yesterday and she just clung to me like a stain. On a few occasions, Maverick has jumped into my lap while Ginger was there and she didn't make a fuss at all. I guess she didn't want to lose her place.
I have come to the conclusion that cats don't like tummy rubs. When I do it to Ginger, her back legs start churning like crazy, pushing me away. Gwen will just try to take a chunk out of my hand. But Maverick opened his jaws and clamped his teeth lightly on my forearm to warn me that I was about to get chewed up if I continued. The problem with rescue cats is you very seldom know about their background. Both the girls are more than slightly neurotic. But this cat seems to be perfectly adjusted and well-mannered. He even recognized the two scratch pads on the floor and used them rather than my furniture. Makes me wonder how he landed in a kill shelter.
This is my first night away from them. I wonder how long it will take for him to get used to my weird schedule.

If he purrs all the Time either Harley or Davidson.
Maybe Gatlin
In the past week, I've seen hundreds of Harleys going to and from Rolling Thunder. I would hardly call that ground-shaking roar a purr.
I briefly considered Tonto from the Art Carney movie Harry and Tonto, but that could get confusing.
Dogs enjoy tummy rubs.
Name him Leonard.
Why?
Why not?
He's one handsome kitty!
How about "Rustle," as in the rustling of leaves, or "Rustler" which also has the old Western hint of cattle rustler. You could call him "Rus" or "Russ" for short. It also looks like he has stripes that are slightly rust-colored, so it could work that way, too.
Or, there's "Vibe," short for vibrate.
I think it took me two weeks to decide on a name for Twix. I don't' think the vet cares if you've got the name picked out yet. They'd probably just call him Kitty Ranger until you settle on a handle for him. :)
Constantly purring, I'd call him Chevy
I like the name Chester. For whatever reason I like "old fashioned names for pets... ours are Ginger, Gracie, Charlotte, and Sidney.
I also like Murray, Franklin, and Calvin.
By the way, he is extremely handsome.
Chester is the name of a little Siamese I had as a kid.
I really like the name Maverick. It makes me think of James Garners and the classic tv series of the same name. That was a fun character - the lovable scoundrel. Perfect for a cat that purrs all the time.
I meant Garner earlier not Garners. I don't know where the extra s came from. .
In keeping with a western theme, I was thinking that "Wyatt" or "Doc" might be good names for your cat.
I've decided on Chito, from Chito Jose Gonzalez Bustamonte Rafferty, the Irish-Mexican sidekick of Tim Holt.
Tim Holt was one of my favorite movie cowboys. I try to catch his movies whenever they're on TV.
He is also orange like a "Cheeto" too...so it fits!
