Sunday Quiz
Who said this?
"I don't sing any love songs. I'm never in love. No Jane Russell type jokes. No violence. There are no gestures, alluding to the derrière or other parts of the anatomy. Words like 'lousy' or 'stinker' are absolutely verboten... It's a happy, wholesome show"

Lawrence Welk?
I know, but I cheated so I'm not going to spoil it for anyone else. I will say that I barely remember that show. What I remember about it is watching it on a small black and white TV back in Kansas City when I was under 4 years old.
And the name of the star of the show was mentioned in a Chad Mitchell Trio song, entitled, "The John Birch Society"... a satirical folk song.
That's what I remember. No more hints.
I should mention to everyone that googling the quiz is like cheating at solitaire. No pain, no gain. These are tests of your memory or experiences.
No, not Lawrence Welk, although he'd qualify. And not Captain Kangaroo either.
Joe Pine?
I'm gonna guess this is before my frame of memory--- late 50's--- Unfortunately Mark's hint didn't help... since I've never heard of The Chad Mitchell Trio although I would love to hear that song!!
Was it a variety show?
My guess this time around is Soupy Sales-- but I believe his was a children's morning show, right?
Wasn't Soupy Sales. He did have a children's show. But children's shows can be variety shows too.
I already have my quiz question for next week:
Who's Joe Pine?
If it's not Geraldo Rivera, is it
Phil Harris?
Phil Harris? He did exactly what this person said he wouldn't do. The big joke on the Harris show is that he was a heavy drinker and was always getting in trouble with his wife.
It's Sunday night and I'm back at work (will it never end?), so I guess it's time to give the answer to the Sunday quiz. The person who said that was Pinky Lee. He said that in response to criticism of his show. He was loved by kids but hated by adults. Parents said after his high-energy show, they had a difficult time calming down their children. And since there was no Ritalin in those days, they couldn't drug the tykes into submission. It was one of my favorite shows, although I have only a vague memory of it now.
Well, I missed the quiz, but that was before my time.
Just when I started feeling old, I suddenly feel like the youngest in the room. ;)
