Passing the Test
Here's an e-mail I just got from a friend.
Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as they see fit.
In order to get that paycheck. I am required to pass a random urine test, which I have no problem with.
What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check, because I have to pass one to earn it for them?
Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sit on their butt. Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Amen, brother. I've worked in HR for 12 years now. I see it everyday. 3 people today alone failed pre-employment drug tests for me (and Fridays are slow days). The truth is they didn't really want a job, they just wanted to say they tried. But they'll get a check. Oh, yes. They will get paid thanks to you and me.
Well, normally I would say that drug tests are an invasion of privacy, and that occasional recreational drug use should be your own business.
But all that goes out the window when you begin to expect me to subsidize your recreational drug use with my Tax Money.
I am self-employed, and I can be required to surrender a urine sample on the side of the road to any D.O.T. Officer who might be bored enough to stop me.
If I am involved in an accident of any kind, whether I am at fault or not and no matter how slight, I am required by Federal Law to provide a urine sample within 24 hours.
And since I have a Commercial Driver's License, if I am ever caught operating a motor vehicle (even my car) with a blood alcohol level of .02 or higher, I lose my driver's license, and subsequently my livelyhood.
You're darn tootin' I agree that recipients of Government assistance of ANY kind should be required to pass a drug test.
I think they should test them every week, and they should test them for alcohol and niccotine as well.
Positive test, No Check.
I've always looked at the term, "recreational drug" as an oxymoron.I mean, it doesn't involve surfboards, tennis racquets, kayaks or any other sort of recreational equipment. But I'm all for drug testing welfare recipients. That's as good a way as any to draw the ACLU out of the woodwork. Then hit them with a mallet.
I posted the original letter
on my blog several weeks ago. A lady I know who lives in Oregon found it in her local newspaper, scanned it, and sent it to me in her weekly newsletter e-mail.
