First Day Out of the Closet
Today was the first day I strapped on my gun and went around town. I stopped at an army surplus place called Full Metal Jacket and they didn't bat an eye. But I picked up a great brown leather Air Force flight jacket for just $99. Then I went to my favorite steak house for lunch, stopped at a drug store and took Gwen to the vet. I even stopped by the rental office to ask a question. Nobody even seemed to notice I had this black, semi-automatic on my hip. That was totally not what I expected. Oh, there was a young guy in the elevator who asked my if I was a police officer. When I told him that guns don't have to be registered in Virginia and anyone who doesn't have a criminal record can carry one as long as he carries it openly, he was amazed.
I fully expect to have a confrontation with someone, sometime, but not today.

Honestly this is hilarious. You walking around a liberal town of "DC-ers" with a gun. Well a little gun education never hurt anybody. Keep up the good work.
We need a picture of this posted.
In protest a liberal is going to take a shot at you...I only say that because I know a liberal is going to miss, so I know you are safe.
Good for you! I second Tonto!
It's odd. I retired from an ammunition manufacturer, where everyone was a shooter. Naturally, every common world weapon was on hand in the ballistics area, and people routinely stopped their pickup, reached in the gun rack and tried to nail a coyote on the way home from work. BUT! permit or no, no
person, from the president on down was allowed to bring a weapon on
site. Hmmmmm. What ya think?
I'm grinning so big that my cheeks hurt. You've made my day. Bravo! You'll have to keep us updated with this. I'm already looking forward to it.
That's just idiotic. The one common thread in all these mass shootings is that nobody shoots back. It was just sheer, dumb luck that there was an off-duty cop in that Utah mall when yet another Muslim went off the deep end (not a terrorist attack, NOT a terrorist attack!).
They're working on that problem here in VA, campaigning to at least let employees have a gun in their vehicle at work.
I have to run to Andrews AFB in the morning to pick up a prescription. That means I can't even have my gun in the trunk of my car. I lose my constitutional rights when I cross the border into Maryland. If ever there were a reason for the federal government to step in and make laws uniform from state to state, this is it. Every state that outlaws guns is violating the Bill of Rights.
Actually the whole idea of the same laws in every state is the one remaining similarity i have with my liberal friends, of course that uniformity of laws in every state, for them, would not extend to include freedom to pack a gun on the street.
But i agree that I should be no more free because I live in one state over another. I would like to think my rights travel with me in the US.
My liberal friends are with me on that because that means they can get an abportion in any state but if I said it had to extend to gun laws TOO...they would shoot me. [pun intended]
Will read "Important Stuff - Or Not" with even greater interest and anticipation, LR. Very gutsy!
Hey Lone Ranger...You packin'?
;)
I'm packin'. I don't have a golden lasso of truth -- and wouldn't wear it if I did.
There was a guy in Sacramento this past week who shot some teens trying to steal his car. Even though he kept shooting when the ran, the D.A. amazingly didn't press charges. yeah.
you might not be packin' for long now...Today's events in your home state will only serve to renew calls for gun control...you know I'm right.
Today's events were the RESULT of gun control. Here's a portion of an e-mail I got from the president of the Virginia Citizens Defense League, which I recently joined.
As most of you know VCDL has been pushing hard to change Virginia law
to allow college and university students with concealed handgun
permits to be able to carry a gun on campus for self-defense.
Last year Delegate Todd Gilbert put in such a bill for us and so did
Delegate Mark Cole this year.
We could not get the bills out of subcommittee.
We warned the General Assembly that violent crime can, and does,
happen on campuses across the Commonwealth.
But the university and college lobbyists swore that crime was not an issue and that the schools did not want students and visitors to be able to defend themselves with a gun or other weapon. They argued
that the schools had little boxes with lights that had a button
someone could press if they needed the police.
The General Assembly turned a deaf ear to allowing college and
university students to be able to protect themselves and here we are
today :-(
While it is NOT illegal for a college or university student with a CHP to carry in Virginia, they could get expelled (or fired if a
teacher). And that is a severe enough financial penalty that students don't want to take the chance. Who can blame them?
But, I'll bet a few are reconsidering their position now. Expelled by 1 or carried by 6?
