Running Gun Battle
The dust-up between gun owners and the Roanoke times here in Virginia has become a national story. CNN's Kyung Lah (whoever that is) has done an interview with Philip Van Cleave, the president of the Virginia Citizen's Defense League, on the Roanoke Time's publishing of the names and addresses of all the people in Virginia who have concealed carry permits. Lah is also going to interview a parole officer who had THREE parolees show up at his residence -- one while only his wife and child were at home! All three admitted to getting his address from the list published on the Internet by the Roanoke Times.
The interview is scheduled to air on Paula Zahn's show at 8 pm Monday. It should be interesting to see if CNN gives this story a fair shake. I'll TiVO it so I can fast-forward through the rest of the show.
Both the Roanoke Times management and Christian Trejbal (the columnist who obtained and helped publish the concealed carry holder list) refused to be interviewed for the story.

I wonder if there isn't some legal remedy against the paper for the violation of the 'rigbt to privacy.' I'm surprised that CNN is running with that story, it's a good thing they are, just surprised.
The information is a matter of public record, but people have to go to local courthouses to look it up or request a list from state police. Either method could help incriminate someone if they used the information to do violence. I'm hoping they do away with the need for permits entirely like they have in Vermont. That will guarantee privacy and give true meaning to the right to keep and bear arms.
As for CNN, I'll have to see the story before I give them any benefit of the doubt. There are any number of ways this could distort the facts.
You know some psycho bothered to go the DMV and get Rebecca Schaeffer's address. She was an actress on a TV show with Pam Dawber in the late 80s. She was engaged to a director.
He drove over there ten minutes from my own house and shot her in the doorway when she came to answer in the middle of the day.
NOW TELL ME SOME BUNNYHUGGER WOULDN'T BOTHER TO GO AND DO THAT?
They changed the law here that you can't give info anymore to the public at the DMV after that. So to publish the info for something stupid like this is ridiculous. To allow this info to be accessible to the public in any form is asking for trouble.
