I'm Armed
So, right after work Saturday, I made my way the 25 miles to the Dulles Expo Center, where something called The Nation's Gun Show was going on. Wow. After working with these metrosexuals for all these years, I'd forgotten how good a firm handshake feels.
It took me two hours to quickly stroll around all the tables. I saw every kind of knife, sword and firearm imaginable, from blunderbusses to things that looked like weapons out of a post-apocalypse science fiction movie.
Anyway, after much internal conflict, I walked out with a Springfield Arms XD-9. It's the first time I've even touched, much less owned, a handgun in 40 years. Next step is to find a shooting range that gives handgun instruction. Although I was an avid shooter when I was a kid, I think I need a refresher.
Then the fun begins. Although I'm in the process of applying for a concealed carry permit, I'm going to open carry for awhile just to see how people react. There was a time in this country when the sight of an armed man didn't even draw a second glance. It was a much more civil society back in those days. As our society has become more coarse, it has also become more sissified. That seems like a contradiction, but that's what's happening. The same people who turn pale at the thought of people exercising their right to self-defense are vulgar, ill-mannered and have no idea of how to behave in a normal social situation. With few exceptions, the Baby Boomers and their Yuppie offspring have done a terrible job of rearing their children.

Congradulations on becoming a citizen and not a subject.
A good discussion site on self-defense is http://combatcarry.com. They have links to holster makers
pistolgear.com (more aimed to the XD) midwayusa.com are good places to order shooting supplies.
Good job! Now try to refrain from using it on some of the people who are vulgar, ill-mannered and have no idea of how to behave in a normal social situation and turn pale at the thought of people exercising their right to self-defense.
Ok now that you carrying...has it changed the way you walked??
Have you had a John Wayne moment?
Actually, I already walk like John Wayne. It's one of the things my ex used to pester me about -- Pilgrim.
