The Dixie Chicks were the big winners in the U.S. music industry's 49th annual Grammy awards Sunday, sweeping all five major categories. The group's album, "Taking the Long Way," won the album of the year award. It was the female trio's first album since singer Natalie Maines told fans in 2003 that she was ashamed to come from the same state as President Bush. In accepting the award, singer Natalie Maines, told the crowd in Los Angeles, California, "I think people are using their freedom of speech here tonight with all these awards. We get the message." The group also won record and song of the year for, "Not Ready to Make Nice." And they took awards for best country album and country performance by a duo or group with a vocal. Carrie Underwood walked away with the Grammy for best new artist.I didn't even know who the Dixie Chicks were until their 2003 controversy. If the Singing Dogs had come out with a song entitled, "George W. Bush Should Burn in Hell," THEY would have swept the Grammys. This, once again, shows how liberals politicize EVERYTHING. If awards shows are going to be held just to make political statements, why hold them? Or, why watch them. I had to watch them, but I did it with the MUTE button on.

The "Who Cares?" Awards
Since one of our writers is out sick tonight, I have the extreme misfortune of having to work the National Desk. That means I'm the guy responsible for writing the Grammy story. What a revoltin' development THIS is! Here's my story. Remember that I write for an international audience.

Music Awards above all the others are the most pointless. Do they even get good ratings anymore?
I wanted to see The Police perform and caught the last bit of Roxanne... that was it for my viewing.
As far as the Dixie Chicks... I used to adore them.... until Natalie went to another country and bashed our Commander in Chief.
At work, I listen to the local college radio station-NPR (had to give up talk radio at work) and they are gaga over the Dixie Chicks... prior to Natalie's vile remarks, NPR and college radio would never have anything to do with those girls.. but now they are the darlings... they play their music all the time....
blah!
In addition to the Grammys, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards and the US Writers Guild awards were held Sunday. That's a lot of tuxedos. And then we have the Academy Awards in two weeks. These people never get tired of patting themselves on the back.
I used to have an anthology CD of songs by a variety of artists that were originally recorded by Bob Will and the Texas Playboys.
I lost it somewhere shortly after my move from Kansas to Maryland. That was in 2003.
The Dixie Chicks did "Roly-Poly" on it and it was great. Other than that, that is the only thing I know of that I ever hear them do.
I never let my personal opinion of an artist affect my enjoyment of their work. I just don't listen to country music.
When I watch a movie with whacko liberal stars in it, I can enjoy it in spite of who's acting in it, and I feel the same way about music. If I enjoy a song, I don't care who sings it, or what their political viewpoints are.
I saw just enough of the Grammys last night to watch Carrie Underwood do a Bob Wills song. It was good, but she's no Bob Wills. After that I changed the channel.
Couldn't help but notice that you
didn't slant your report to fit your opinions.. Obviously, you would make a crummy liberal.
And Bob Wills is no Carrie Underwood, Mark!!!
The fat Dixie Chick may have dark hair now, but she's still a dumb blonde...
Mark- I'm the same way... Good grief all the music I listen to is performed by raging Liberals that live in a bubble...Certain folks cross a line and I can no longer enjoy them.... The Dixie Chicks were a fun band... someone that I actually took my 8 year (at the time) old niece to see. Fun, clean... then they became "enlightened" and sadly the rest is history...
I equate them to Sean Penn... Jane Fonda...
Trader Rick I didn't realize how funny you are!!!
