Back to the 70s

My female readers are all probably too young to remember this, but back in the early 70s, whenever a crime was committed, the media would state any military service the suspect had. For instance, if a liquor store was robbed, the story would state SOMEWHERE, "the former Army private..." It's happening again.
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A retired U.S. Marine captain has been charged for allegedly having sex with young girls while working as a teacher in Cambodia, federal authorities said Friday.
Blah, blah, blah. And the last line of the story...
No details were provided about Pepe's service in the Marines.
In other words, Pepe's service in the Marines was totally irrelevant to the story. And the media says it isn't biased. And liberals say they support the troops.

Just one more way to expedite the anti-military sentiment that appears to be growing in this country...

If the media can establish:

MILITARY SERVICE = CRIMINAL

...well, that just makes the Liberals job that much easier...

I'm not too young to remember that, I just don't remember noticing back. However, you're right, and I have noticed that lately.

Same thing happens with religions. With Mitt Romney in the running you'll start seeing more about Mormons gone astray. That'll probably equate to other religions as well--except for Muslim, of course.
