Where Is She, Miss America?

I remember as a kid, the Miss America Pageant was anticipated like the Superbowl ('cept there was no Superbowl). The entire family would gather around the black and white TV with snacks to watch it. So, imagine my surprise last night when I heard that Miss Oklahoma, Lauren Nelson won. Had I not been working on the National Desk last night, I wouldn't have even known that it was being held. In Las Vegas yet. It was broadcast on CMT -- Country Music Television. Look forward to it next year on QVC. I think it will be part of a bathing suit promotion. What happened? How did this American tradition since 1921 fade into obscurity? (I'm watching Miss America 1989, Gretchen Carlson right now on Fox and Friends.) Did the feminists finally win their irrational campaign kill it? Have liberals so corrupted this country that people are too cynical to watch? Can't they find contestants who are willing to practise sexual abstinence during the pageant? I dunno, but I guess that old Statler Brothers song is right: Whatever happened to Randolph Scott has happened to the industry.

I love that old Statler Brothers song! Haven't heard it in over a decade.

I saw a news item on AOL this morning asking who won? Miss Texas or Miss Oklahoma? They wouldn't say but there was a link to a video clip of when they announced the winner. I watched it. It still didn't say. I'm glad you are here to inform me.

Yeah, those femi-nazis don't like anyone that might turn a head.

I find it interesting, however, that with all the negativity regarding pageants, the winners all seem to end up as news anchors. The network bosses still insist on someone easy on the eye.

Now Shepard Smith is someone I could look all day... ;)
