This Day in Republican History 1/15/07

January 15, 1901 Republican Booker T. Washington protests Alabama Democratic Party’s refusal to permit voting by African-Americans Yes, it's true. Booker T. Washington was a Republican. During the last half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century -- after Republicans won them the right to vote -- the vast majority of blacks in this country voted Republican. Why? Because a black voting Democrat would have been like a Jew joining the Nazi Party. They would have been lynched if they had tried. It's too bad our public schools no longer teach American history.
