I see on the early White House insight that the President will deliver remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial this morning. What? First a holiday, now a memorial? Furthermore, the memorial will be placed smack dab between the Lincoln Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial. Is it proper to give this man not only equal status with George Washington -- the only other individual to have a holiday -- and now two of our greatest presidents, Jefferson and Lincoln? How much did MLK really contribute to the advancement of civil rights in this country? How many self-appointed black leaders believe the words, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." Don't today's black activists stand for exactly the opposite of what MLK believed -- separation and special treatment rather than unity and equality? How many liberals would tolerate the words, "I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; "and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together." What? The Lord? How DARE he talk about God! How many people today would listen to, "And this will be the day -- this will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning:
Waaait a minute! America is the source of evil in the world! The Pilgrims exploited the Indians and America has plundered the earth ever since! The fact is, if MLK were alive today he would be as vilified by leftist black leaders as Justice Clarence Thomas, Condi Rice, Alan Keyes or any other conservative black. But the liberals will be on hand for this groundbreaking. My country 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrim's pride,
From every mountainside, let freedom ring!
