I have been out of the loop lately...both parents have been very ill so I have been practically living over the past month back in West Hollyowood, California which is in between Beverly Hills and the dirty part of Hollywood where my parents live. While I am back in my old neighborhood once an aging Jewish middle class group, now gentrified turned gay and upper middle class white couples with maybe a kid or two because Beverly Hills is now too expensive, I have noticed a few changes. Well like most urban settings the public schools stink and always have. My parents struggled to put me and my 3 brothers in private school for that reason. Well now CHARTER schools have just opened up around there and are now the NEW thing. As we all know, they do not use union teachers and require parents to volunteer 80 hours througout the year and do fundraisers. The schools are new, clean, modern and very personable. I use to go to political meetings in the neighborhood to get acquainted with ballot stuff and meet my neighbors during election periods. Last year, they were bent on defeating Schwarzeneggar's proposition to make it harder for teachers to get and keep their tenure. hey...kind of like charter schools...but the teacher's union practically called him and NAZI for doing it and Warren Beatty and Alec Baldwin helped tank it at the ballot box. Well this same group who are al active Yuppies or successful, rich gay men are all now working in the CHARTER SCHOOL! I couldn't believe it. These same people who know the public shcool system stinks mostly because of how the teacher unions have run it into the ground have now left the public school system and put their kids in the CHARTER SCHOOLS! They know they are removing money from the local public school and supporting the ENEMY...but they do not care. WHY??? All of them have had problem getting their kids into classrooms with decent teachers and when the school told them their is nothing we can do to the teacher. The teacher has rights and will not be removed...they went to the CHARTER school where teachers have no union...I bet they all SECRETLY shop at WALMART NOW TOO!! This same group is now working to get the charter school to go to the 12th grade!! When I ask one dad how do you feel about your local public school now? He said "oh we still support our public schools!!" Am I missing something???

If liberals lose the public schools, they lose their greatest tool for indoctrinating our children with their nutty agendas. Here

The only viable solution is school vouchers, so parents can choose the schools they send their kids to. When the majority of public school teachers send their kids to private schools, you know something is broken. Home schooling is also excellent, but with the government taking half our saleries in taxes, who can afford to have one parent stay at home?
