Battlestar Iraqtica (Geek Alert!)

Battlestar Galactica started its third season a few weeks ago. At the end of the last season, the Galactica found a dreary planet that supports life and most of the colonists decided to stop running from the Cylons and settle there. They thought they were safe because the planet was hidden by a nebula, but the Cylons found them. This season starts a year later, with the Cylons as rulers of humans. But the humans have formed an insurgency. What tactics are they using to fight back? Suicide bombers who kill as many innocent humans as they do Cylons. Anything familiar here? They are making suicidal insurgents look like heroes. Who wants to watch CNN Iraq news performed by actors every Friday? The sex scenes and profanity have gotten worse too. The result? Ratings are plummeting. Hardly anyone is watching what was once called the best sci fi series on TV. Who would produce a TV sci fi series that kids can't watch? It's just stupid, and I'm tuning out. I'll wait for the next Stargate season.

I am *so* disappointed with the turn that the show has taken. I loved it so much for the first two seasons. But hey, why am I not surprised?

Star Trek was loaded with social commentary too, but they didn't bludgeon people with it.

Stargate is always a safe bet.

I personally haven't yet given up on Galactica...

I'm curious to see where they go with it, although the Suicide Bomber thing was just a bit creepy.

Another thing that has always bothered me about the new Galactica series is the fact that they have Polytheistic Heros fighting against Monotheistic Villians who have no Souls to begin with.

If that's intended to be Social Commentary, then it is twisted at best.

Still an interesting series though...
