This Day in Republican History 8/01/06

August 1, 1916 Republican presidential candidate Charles Evans Hughes, former New York Governor and U.S. Supreme Court Justice, endorses women’s suffrage constitutional amendment; he would become Secretary of State and Chief Justice Yup, that's right, feminists and soccer moms. It was the Republican party that got the women's suffrage ball rolling. And they rolled right over the Democratic speed bump.
