Well I am a new mom. Had a premature baby in December that was 10 weeks early while I was on vacation in Rome!! Made it through and now that he is o.k. and doing great I am starting to notice the regular stuff I guess that all baby boys do. He was born 3 lbs and now 20 lbs and 7 months old!! Well I just found out my son is slightly advanced despite his early birth. AND you want to know what makes the doctor and physical therapist tell me that??? He has already found his penis. I was told older babies around 10 to 12 months do this, but NO mine found his at 5 months and has never let go of it since. He needs two hands to hold a bath toy but that would require his left hand to let go of his new toy...FAT CHANCE! He won't do it!! Instead he has figured out how to pull the toy up his tummy with one hand...another advanced thing to do at 5 months while still holding on to his penis. Unbelievable. As a matter of fact yesterday he had his hand underneath the bubbles in the tub in the morning and started crying. I said, "Nicolas let go of your penis! Let go of your penis Nicolas and it will stop hurting." Finally he let go and smiled then seconds later, the water splashes and "THUUMP" grabs it again and starts to cry...Finally I said, "Fine, Fine, I need to cut your fingernails. I get it already." Now This is my first kid. I had no idea. My family wants me to do something about it because if his diaper comes off! ...THUUUMP!!...right down his hand goes. As soon as he gets in the tub... right down there he goes. I cannot believe this is normal and I just found out there is really nothing I can do. Should I be disturbed by this? I think I should be proud he is advancing so well, but I am not really sure?? This whole first year motherhood thing has been traumatizing to be honest.

I told you when you were still in Rome that there was something special about that kid. I believe I also told you to start saving your pennies now for private school. The worst thing you can do to any kid of any IQ is to put him in the L.A. public school system.
Another thing to look for as he gets older is a sense of humor. My son not only knew what was funny but purposely did things that were funny. One time, shortly after he started talking, he ruffled my hair and said, "You're a good kid." Don't know where he picked that up.
By the way, if he doesn't break that habit, he'll grow up to be a liberal.
